Letter bomb a hoax

(N.Z.P.A.Reuter—Copyright) CANBERRA, Nov. 23. A hoax letter bomb, addressed to the Prime Minister (Mr Malcolm Fraser) was found in a Canberra suburban post office yesterday morning. A spokesman for the Department of Police and Customs said that the 6in by 4in white envelope was sent on Thursday from Kooweerup, Victoria. This was the day after a letter bomb exploded in the offices of the Queensland Premier (Mr Bjelke-Peter-sen), injuring two staff members, and another, addressed to Mr Fraser, was found in his Canberra departmental offices and was defused by the police. While the live bombs had identical handwriting and explosive devices, as well as the words “Press Release Kit” on their envelopes, yesterday’s hoax bomb only had the “Press Release Kit” inscription in common with the others.
