Freezing workers go back
WELLINGTON. Not 24 Normal work will resume at the Longburn, Feilding and Waingawa freezing works tomorrow morning after four weeks of disruption because of a mutton slaughtermen’s productivity dispute. Shed meetings at the three works today decided the ban on mutton slaughtermen a< cepting employment for the export killing season should be lifted. In addition, workers involved in the beef kill at the Feilding works, who stopped work in support of their col leagues involved in the mut ton slaughtering, will also re .turn to work The question of a produi tivity agreement for mutton slaughtermen has jet to be resolved. It is understood that ’he Minister of Laboui (Mr Faulkner) might appoint a committee of inquiry to look at the question on a national basis The men have demanded a minimum of $4O a day. which is $7.50 above the $32.50 pro vided in the meat export industry’s general collective agreement. The companies refused t*. discuss the claim until all men returned to work
