DUNK STILL LEADER Rain washes out play in N.Z. Open golf

<New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. Heavy overnight rain caused the postponement of the fourth and final round of the New Zealand BP Open golf championship at St Andrews, Hamilton.

Water-logged greens made the course—in excellent condition for the event—unplayable. Tournament organisers announced the cancellation of play at midday after twice holding back the starting time.

The final round is now scheduled to be played today. If conditions once again prevent the 60-strong field getting under way the leader at the end of the third round will probablv be named the 1975 Open champion. He is Billy Dunk, of Australia, who battled most of the way on Saturday to retain his lead. Dunk got a stem warning from two talented young Americans, Bill Brask and Bruce Fleisher.

They shot St Andrews par to pieces with rounds of 65 and 66 to be heading the chase after the Australian.

Charges were also coming from John Lister, of New Zealand, and another Australian, Randall Vines. Dunk was realy under pressure. At the end of the parbreaking day. Dunk who shot a course record of 64 in the opening round, had a lead of only one stroke over Brask. Dunk had a 10-under-par, three-round total of 206 (64, 72, 70), Brask 207 (70, 72,65), Fleisher 208 (69, 73, 66), Artie McNickle 209 (71. 70, 68), and Lister 209 (67, 71, 70). On 210 is the seven times Open champion, Kel Nagle, of Australia, with rounds of 69, 72 and 69. Dunk was fighting grimly to maintain his form. Game loose Although he had two birdies in the first seven holes of his third round to be nine under for the tournament, Dunk’s game was very loose.

Lister, who started the third round five under for the tournament, dropped strokes at the second and third holes, but picked up birdies at the fourth and sixth to be right back in the firing line. Scores:— 206—E. W. Dunk (Aust.), 64 72, 70.
