Limits on travel to U.K.
AUCKLAND. Oct. 29
The public Interest had not been fully considered in the Air Neu Zealand decision to restrict the travel conditions on excursion travel to Europe, said the president of the Travel Agents* .Association (Mr R. Alpe) today. The travel industry viewed the changes as ••good in parts." but it was not entirely i enthusiastic about them. “They will hamstring the' travelling public by channel-) ling it into certain directions, if they buy excursion fare! tickets to London or Europe.” he said, “and they discrimi-. nate against European' national residents in New' Zealand." Under the new travel regulations for New Zealand to Britain excursion travel, passengers must fly to London, can only use two airfines on the round trip, and can transfer aircraft only at! either Hong Kong. Singapore.! Los Angeles, or San Fran-, cisco. Sydney was deleted as a! transit point, fares for return, or one-way flights had been increased slightly, but the! m ntmum qualifying time fori the cheap fare has been reduced from 45 to 2! days. Mr Alpe said excursion i travellers had lost the right j to visit European capitals en route to Britain. Dutch, German. Swiss, and other European nationals had lost the easy access they had to their; country’s airport, and would; row have to pav extra for the Lmdon-onwards segment of! thrtr trip. The association is a wane - !ng talks with airline officials to discuss what it called the scheme’s weaknesses.
