The two Irish guerrillas holding the Dutch industrialist. Dr Tiede Herrema, today defied pleas from all sides to surrender, including one from their own former I.R.A. comrades.
The Irish Government still i refusing to make any deal,! there is no sign of an end to) the six-day deadlock between the hundreds of policemen and troops besieging the house in which Dr Herrema is held and the kidnappers, Eddie Gallagher, aged 28, and Marian Coyle, aged 19.
The only action last night! was when several policemen I scrambled over the roof of! the house. A police spokes-1 man said that several. slates) were removed, and there is) speculation that more bug-| ping devices have been plan-: ted to relay the guerrillas’' conversation.

It is not known whether) the kidnappers have a radio, on which they may have) heard O’Brady's message, but police holding the' ground floor of the house) are understood to have passed on what the Sinn) Fein leader said. Reports say that Dr Her-i rema is suffering in the cold) and draughty upstairs; rooms. He has been heard! coughing through listening! devices, but the police say! that monitored conversations! have indicated that he is ini better mental condition; than his captors. <
