Ramage impressed with Show Keeper
••‘The Press" Special Service) DUNEDIN “He just has to be about as good as the mare." said an; ielated Chris Ramage after win-! [ning the Grandstand Handicap! on Show Keeper at Wingatui on Saturday. The mare, of course, is Show Keeper's sister. Show Gate., which is slowly recovering from! a cracked sesamoid received last! November. Ramage's reason for elation ,was because Show Keeper had triumphed under difficulties. ‘‘He was not handling the Utrack. Then Bennelong had us ‘lon down the back but slowed J the field down when he got to .[the front, so I had to take the I;lead back. Then I went wide .' into the straight to avoid a ! boggy patch.” said Ramage.
i It was sheer class that carried ’ the day for Show Keeper. He was in such difficulty in the . ?asy ground that he momentarily went off balance about st)m [short of the winning post. I Ramage sat still and Show I Keeper went to the line half a ‘length clear of Windvale. Show Keeper will probably [race next at the Geraldine meet-' 'ing on Saturday week then al 'Rangiora as a lead-up to the New Zealand Cup The track had dried considerlabiy when Show Keeper s stable--mate. Gates Ajar, outsped his rivals in the Beaumont Handi- [ cap. Gates Ajar went to the i front at the 400 m and coasted! > I home. His main mission at. the ’ New Zealand Cup meeting will ■ be the Stewards’ Handicap, a i trace won by Show Gate in the 1 last two years.
