Mind over matter
| “Mind Over Body” is a I documentary investigation of] i modern research into the (phenomenon of ’bio-feeback’ —in which the mind can control involuntary body functions such as temperature, I ipulse-rate and brain waves.’ It will be screened by TV2 on Friday evening. This area of research may] ;be used in the future to teach [self-therapy for various! pyschosomatic illnesses. To date considerable advances have been made using the research in the treatment of such brain-induced disorders as migraine and fits, and in such bodily malfunctions as palpitations and nerves. I
The techniques are based on the fact that if the subject can see a measure of, say, pulse-rate, he is consciously able to change the rate by watching the measuring device on a will-power or “reward” basis.
