Damp cricket opening

Cricket came in with a whimper on Saturday, with opening practices washed out by the steady drizzle. But the senior championship and other competition grades will f begin as scheduled next : Saturday. Clubs held their open- , ings indoors. For High ; School Old Boys, there : was the receipt of “The | Press” senior championship pennant, made to the ‘ club by the chairman of the Canterbury Cricket Association management committee. Mr D. J. Elder. It was accepted for the club by Cran Bull, captain of the winning Old Boys senior team last season. Notwithstanding the depressing weather, there were very good musters at most of the club openings, particularly at Bumside, Riccarton, St Albans and l-ancaster Park. The indoor pitches at Hagley Oval were also 1 busy — they were occupied by enthusiastic women players.
