New centre opened

A new $28,000 training centre for the Canterbury Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade was opened at Waipara yesterday by the chairman of the Counties Association (Mr Clutha McKenzie). The centre took about three months to build. A Christchurch businessman gave $20,000 towards its cost and a $5OOO Government grant was received. The other $3OOO was raised by the brigade. The centre has four bunkrooms, each containing four bunks, conveniences, a small kitchen, and a large conference room, all carpeted. The centre will be available for use by other groups or families, but its main function will be to train officers and boys.
