Man loses leg

A Christchurch man had a leg amputated after he was run over by a railway waggon at the Middleton goods yard on Friday.

He is Samuel Robert Coulter, aged 51, of 81 Wattle Drive, North New Brighton.

It is believed that Mr Coulter was working in the yard when he slipped and fell under a moving waggon about 12.30 p.m. on Friday.

The waggon passed over his leg, which was later amputated at Christchurch Hospital. Mr Coulter, who also suffered injuries to his chest and shoulder, was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition last evening.
