Dental board protest
The ratio of employees to employers on the national Dental Technicians Board, the trade’s governing body, has been challenged by the employees. At a special meeting of the New Zealand Dental Technicians Association in Wellington it was decided to withdraw the association’s two representatives from the 10member board in protest at the small employee representation. The other four bodies with representatives on the board are all employer bodies. The association’s secretary (Mr H. McCrory) said yesterday that they were upset at the way the board was being run and they thought nothing would change without there being employee representation. He said there were 390 registered dental technicians in the country and 140 laboratory owners, yet the ratio on the board was one to four. The board is elected once every three years, and the present board was constituted in August. It was originally set up to make mechanical dentistry a registerable occupation.
