f.V Z. Press Association) jj WELLINGTON. [ The New Zealand j Y.W.C.A.’s first national* president. Miss Ethel Law,; has died in her Lower Hutt ~ home. She was 88. Miss Law, who was born in Wellington, graduated M.A. with first-class honours in French and Latin from : Victoria University. After teaching at Southland Girls’ High School, Dannevirke High School and 1 Wanganui Girls’ College, she 1 joined the Y.W.C.A. in * Christchurch and was [ * general-secretary from 1919 to 1927. She was then* appointed the association's • first national general- • [secretary until 1931, when , she took up a similar position ( for the association in Canada ( [for six years. Miss Law returned to New , Zealand in 1937 and resumed j her position as national general-secretary until she* retired in 1946 She then T served on the Government T Advisory Board for Immigra- r tion until 1954. and pub- i lished her historv of the e Y.W.C.A. in 1961.’ I Miss Law was awarded the J 'M.B.E. in 1949. f
