Breeding heifers sell to $ll5
Buying inquiry was steady i I rather than strong when a < special sale of two-year-old heif-! ' ers and breeding cows was held lat the Addington market on Thursday. Considering the level of the current export schedule, and the ■! improved level of the local beef market prices were generally not as high as expected. HowI ever, the sale was a great deal i better than that for y earling heifers the previous day. Hereford heifers made up a 1 : large part of the yarding of 945 ; I head, most of them being from l :' Marlborough east coast vendors. ,: The Bluff Station iKekerengui. was again one of the principal vendors, and its line of 209 head , averaged almost 577, compared I with S7O last year. However, there was no detin ite trend about the level ol ■ values. Some vendors maintained . last year's rates; others recorded a small decline. 1 For most of the sale, best : heifers were selling at $lOO to . Silt), with some sales to $ll5. , good average at $B5 to $95, . medium $7O to $B2. and smalt i down to $57. A small offering of cows with : calves at foot sold mainly at $B6 to $95. witli one sale at ' $ll6. ‘ Canterbuy buyers provided most of the demand, but there , were several sales to the West Coast and Palmerston.
