Arms spending in S. Africa

(N.Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) EAST LONDON (South Africa). The South African Prime Minister (Mr Vorster) said that the republic had no intention of reducing its arms spending. Addressing the Cape congress of the National Party, Mr Vorster said: “For a small country. South Africa has made itself self-suf-ficient in case it is attacked. We do not seek quarrels. We do not seek bad feelings. Least of all do we seek war. “We will go as far along the path of peace as we can, but South Africa would be foolish if it were not prepared to defend itself if necessary. “If anv man in South Africa says that in the spirit of relaxation now prevailing. South Africa does not need to spend money on armaments, such a man is living i in a fool s paradise.” I
