Story of a spy
“Super Spy,” on TVI on Monday night, is the story of Rheinhart Gehlen, a German who came to prominence during the Second World War as a member of German Intelligence. After the war Gehlen continued his activities and helped the Americans spy on Russia during the Cold War Gehlen also helped other nations form intelligence services until a series of scandals forced him to retire to a secluded villa where he lived in anonymity.
The documentary has been produced and directed by Peter Batty. His team fashioned this profile on the activities of Gehlen, with comments from other experts in the espionage field along with considerable historical footage. Of particular interest is the section dealing with the end of the Second World War, when he handed his files over to the Americans and developed his espionage system in Eastern Europe.
