Lawrence story on Sunday
Valerie Hobson and John Mills star in an adaptation of the D. H. Lawrence story. “The Rockinghorse Winner,” to show on Sunday. Lawrence’s dialogue has been used in its entirety and the only changes have been in additional scenes to strengthen the ending for film. The story concerns Hester Grahame. an ambitious woman determined to live life as richly and extravagantly as she can. She has little time for her children, although in a strained, shy way, she loves them. FAVOURITE TOY Paul, her eldest son, is a child starved of affection. His favourite toy is a rockinghorse with which he develops a strange affinity. The story, basically, is a reiteration of the old maxim of money not buying happiness and the scene added to the end of the story is intended to reinforce this.
