Champion hack in training
A welcome befitting her stat': as New Zealand’s latest world champion was given Karen Treloar when she returned home to Chfstehurch from the world roller-swating championships in Italy. The 18-yean-old Miss Treloar won the 5000 m road title and she was also placed third in the 3000 m, On hand at the airport to meet her were relatives, friends and a gusrd-of-honour of youthful skaters. She then went on to a reception at the Hornby Trust Hotel. Miss Treloar said that while the competition at the championships had been intense, in particular among the Europeans, her victory had been well received. She admitted that her win had come as a surprise *o many people, including herself. There will be little respite for Miss Treloar, because she intends getting straight baek into training for the New Zealand championships In Christchurch in De cember. She has no thoughts of retirement, although coaching Is likely to become more important to her in the coming years. The next world championships are scheduled for New Zealand —the exact venue has yet to be decided—in 1977, and Miss Tre lose hones to be on hand tn defend her title.
