Triangular squash contest
The Canterbury Squash Rackets Association is to propose that eight men and six women make up each of the teams-—Canterbury, Central Districts, and Wellington— competing in the new triangular tournament next May.
Its management committee decided this at its monthly meeting last evening after receiving a letter from Central Districts proposing that the teams be made up of only six men and four women. The tournament is to be
held annually, with Southern Districts competing every second year, and Mr Hargreaves suggested that “the more players involved the better. It w’ould give the second echelon the opportunity to play a provincial match.” Ha proposed that 19 men and •lx women ba tent, but he only had ona supporter. The general feeling was that his motion would mean the sending of a weak team and the objeet was to win.
Mr Foulds expressed concern at" the high number of defaults during the season—29 team defaults and eight part defaults. He said that the Lincoln College Division S team was the worst offender with five team defaults. “This disrupts the competition,” he said.
‘You have to live with this sort of thing in a University town, * said Mr Hargreaves. The Canterbury junior eham pionships, cancelled several months ago because of the lack of entries, has been rescheduled for October 17 to 19 and the from 83.50 to 81.50.
■NT«Y FIB “The reduction of on entrv fee because of sponsorship (Spalding) should happen more often,” said the president (Mr L. G. Milne).
Messrs Hargreaves. Milnt, C. A. Hooker and I. Thomas were appointed the delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Squash Rackets Association next month.
The Blank Jog—a four-mils run round Hsgley Park on October 18—has been renamed the Hogley Keg et the request of the originator of the idea, Mr Mauries Blank.
