Help for private patients

(N.X. Prsss Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. Surgical and maternity benefits for private hospital patients will be increased by $3 a day from today, according to the Minister of Health (Mr McGuigan). The increases, approved by the Cabinet, will bring the benefits for surgical and maternity patients to $l2 a day. The rise is expected to cost $354,000 in the 1975-76 financial year, and $850,000 in a full year. Mr McGuigan said the Cabinet’s decision could be related to an assurance given by the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) that private hospitals, such as the Mater Misericordiae (Auckland) and Calvary (Christchurch) would not be left facing the threat of closing because of finan- ■ cial difficulties.
