Applicants should have a recent.Ph.D. in Astronomy and interests in Astrophysics. Experience with the interfacing of computers and the popularisation of astronomy will be an advantage.
The Observatory has a 16in Boiler and Chivens telescope in operation in Wellington and a PDP 11E10 mini-com-puter. This is initially to be interfaced to a fast-photo-meter. but will eventually be used to control a vidicon The Observatory is to undertake an extensive site-testing programme to find the best site for the relocation of its telescpoe. The major duties of the appointee will be in the day to day supervision of the site-testing activity, and in collaboration in the development of auxiliary in- : strumentation for the tele-' (scope.
