Bread to go up

' V Z. Press Association • WELLINGTON. Aug. 28. Bread will go up in price by one cent a loaf (two cents for a 41b loaf) from Monday, September 1. The Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Freer) said today that it was the first increase tn the price of standard bread since the Labour Government took office. Until now the increased costs of bakers had been met bv higher subsidy payments. which now amounted to more than Ssm a vear on bread and would continue at that level. The Price Tribunal had recently accepted that bakers should be recompensed for some further increases in costs. The increase bore no relation to the increased price to be paid to wheatgrowers for the 1975-76 season, Mr Freer said. The new; wheat price would not be paid until February.
