Sockburn site for home for elderly

Plans by the Social Services Council to build a 40-bed residential home for the elderly at Sockburn were discussed at a meeting of the Paparua Countyi Council’s finance committee on Monday. The committee recommended that the council support the scheme, and ap- 1 prove of the home being located on council land next to Sockbum Park. A sub-committee that it had discussed the scheme with Mr F, A. Gunn, secretary-manager of the Social Service Council of the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch. He said that his council wanted to care for those who needed special, assistance, but did not need full-time nursing.

Mr Gunn said that a subsidy of $12,000 a bed was available.
