City traffic dept on the move
All departments of|l the city traffic division' of the Ministry of ' Transport will move to ( new premises on the ; corner of Cashel Street 1 and Montreal Street t during the week-end. From Monday, all matters , involving city traffic control and the issuing and testing of drivers' licences will be i dealt with from the new pre- , mises. General inquiries about city traffic and parking in- , fringements and permits for , over-dimension loads will also j be handled from the new
Transport House. At present the department is in offices in Manchester Street. The city traffic division will occupy the ground and first floors of the five-storev building. The main entrance is from Montreal Street. The regional secretary for transport (Mr D. L. Hogan) said that more vehicle parking for the public would be available near Transport House. “Our move will improve traffic flow in Manchester Street because we generated a Jot of traffic movement there.” Half of the fourth floor in the new building is alreadv occupied bv the Social Welfare Department. The rest of the building will be occupied
I by the Ministry of Transport. I Eventually all departments of the will be housed in Transport House. These include the Marine Division and Civil Aviation which hope to make the move late in October. Their move is being delayed by late installation of office partitioning which is scheduled to be completed on October 21. As soon as the Manchester Street building is vacated the Citv Council will transfer its health department there from the overcrowded offices in the Council Chamber building. About 40 people will be involved in the transfer.
