No shake - up for cocktails

' <K.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, August 26. The Government has no intention of stopping New Zealanders from having cocktails in hotel bars. The Minister of Justice (Dr Finlay), asked tonight whether the Sale of Liquor Amendment (No. 2) Bill would effectively put an end to the “cocktail” trade, said the bill would not affect cocktails. The bill prohibits barmen from serving more than 40 millilitres of spirits in one drink. Interpre-

ted strictly, this could put an end to cocktail drinking in bars.

Dr Finlay said he did not think the bill would be interpreted in a way which would prohibit the serving

of cocktails. The aim of the provision was to stop the serving of spirits in jugs, not to end the drinking of cocktails.

However, the Statutes Revisions Committee would examine the provision closely and determine whether a change in its wording was necessary to clarify the position.
