Long service to education ends
Two former members of the Canterbury Education Board died during the week-end. They were Mr Edward Fred-
erick Wilde, aged 74, and Mr Andrew Shirlaw' Murray, aged 77. Mr Wilde was a board: member for nearly 15 years.!
; He resigned only last month. He was a former president . of the Federation of School Committees, and of the Canterbury School Committees ■Association.
I Mr Wilde was the board •1 representative on the Linwood High School, Aranui High School, Shirley Boys’ High School and the Maireihau High School boards of ■ governors. He also represented the board on the Elmwood ~visual aid advisory commit--1 tee. and the district appointments committee. He was the chairman of the inorth New Brighton branch of the Labour Party, and was [a founder of the North Brighton Residents’ Associa-
tion. Mr Wilde is survived by his wife, and four children. i .Mr Murray was the longest serving chairman of the Canterbury Education Board. He served from 1962 until 1972. He was first elected to the board in 1954. He resigned in 1972. He had been chairman of the board’s professional committee and had served on the district appointments committee. He was a former member of the Cheviot Countv Council.
Mr Murray, who was representative for the North Canterbury ward, was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1970 for services to education. He was a past president of the New Zealand Education Boards’ Association.
