Gas Company water

Sir, —Our thanks are due to Baden Norris for his authoritative opposition to the discharging by the Christchurch Gas Company lof its polluted water into the Heathcote River and Esi tuary. I am disappointed that such statements from wildlife experts such as Mr Norris, receive so little recjognition in our news media I and by our civic authorities. The Gas Company has long (been aware of the possibility of the present situation occurring and has done nothing to prevent it and neither have our city fathers. Now is the time to develop alternative means of disposing of the dangerous effluent. The citizens of Christchurch have a right to demand that once and for all, this company respect our wishes against the pollution of our rivers and estuary, the destruction of bird, fish and plant life, and the ruin of ecological systems. No longer should we listen to the pompous claims of this company’s manager about the service to the community while its discharge is so blatantly' damaging. — Yours, etc., P. W. GREEN.
