Training flights
Sir, — Adrian Muller’s letter on N.A.C.’s flight training procedures in the Christchurch area does the corporation a gross disservice in its inaccuracy. The “tragic accident” in Auckland “using an identical aircraft” never occurred. I assume the incident to which he refers was the' crash of an Air New' Zealand DCB aircraft, caused by a design fault in the reverse thrust mechanism, sub-
isequently acknowledged by McDonnell-Douglas, the air-; 'craft’s manufacturers. If an: IN.A.C. Boeing 737 has been; !involved in an accident of: (tragic proportions it is Mr (Muller’s duty to inform both iN.A.C. and the Civil Avia-; i tion Division without delay,] las neither body is aware (that such an event has taken place. — Yours, etc., j ROGER J. PEEK. August 21, 1975.
