Deadline for submissions

The deadline for submissions to the Royal Commission on Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion has been extended to September 30.

The chairman of the Commission (Mr Justice,; McMul'in) said yester- . day that the original deadline of September i 19 had been extended • because some organisa- , tions would have had difficulty in forwarding i submissions on time. ' i ‘The first public sitting will ( take place on September 10 i at the Caltex Lounge, 24 ' Taranaki Street, Wellington.” < Mr McMullin said. L "At this sitting the Commission will conduct formal business and outline -the pro-1 cedures it proposes to follow. Submissions will be pre-; sented bv the office of the Silicitor-General. the Health Department and the Social; Welfare Department. adjourn after hearing these submissions and will reconvene for public hearings about the middle of October. It is establishing headquarters on the fourth floor of the Southern Cross Building in Victoria Street East, Auckland. Mr McMullin announced the appointment of Dr W. H. Cooper. C.8.E., as secretarv to the Commisssion. Dr Cooper was formerly headmaster of Auckland Grammar School and is a former Chancellor of the University of Auckland.
