Landslides blamed on scrub loss
Properties in Clifton Hill which were hit by landslides in the recent storm were those which had been cleared of bush and scrub under oressure from the Christchurch Fire Authority and the City Council, some residents believe.

Secular) said there were certainlv some cases where scrub might have held land which had slipped, but most ,of the slips had been on shallow surfaces He said the scrub might have absorbed the moisture, hut at this time of the year It would probably have entered the ground, in any case.
