Gains trimmed; mixed tone on quiet market

Profit-taking took its toll of most of recent gains on Australian stock exchanges yesterday, and the market closed on a generally mixed note in slow trading. Pancontinental fell from a peak of 600 c to 580 c, and Bougainville lost 8c to 92c on the lower-profit results. Endeavour, Ocean Resources, Woodside-Burmah, Poseidon, A. A. , A.M. and S., and C.R.A. showed losses. B.H. South recovered from its lowest point of the year. Kathleen, G.M.K., and International Oil had marginal gains. Coal and Allied rose 7c to 252 c. Philip Morris was quoted higher after the rise in net profits. B.H.P. firmed 6c at 718 c, and C.S.R., the National Bank, Lend Lease, and Myers were higher.
