Paul McLean, the young full-back, set a Wallaby test : record as Australia easily; beat Japan, 37-7. in the first of their two Rugby tests at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. McLean scored two tries, ] five conversions, and a pen- . alty goal. He missed two ' kicks, including a late penalty ‘ shot which would have brought him level with the 24 points scored by Fergie \McCormick for New Zealand;! against Wales in 1969. The Japanese fought back;, to trail only 18-7 at half-time.;! ■and they never stopped try-it ing to run the ball in the < second half. ;
