Triumph tops in economy
(A.Z. Press Association; b WELLINGTON. ' Averaging 38.25 miles ( to the gallon, an Auck- I land driver, Bob Kidd j and his co-driver, Jim , Carder, won the 1975 , Mobil Economy Run. Kidd and Carder, driving a, I Triumph 2500, also won Class C for cars between 2001-2700 c.c. The 2000 kilometre run ended prematurely in Mas- ■ terton because of wind gusts; reaching 100 miles an hour. The cars then drove to< Wellington over the Pahiatua Track through Mana-. I watu. Second place went to the, champion racing driver, Gra-i ■erne Lawrence, and his co-' driver, C. Vandendungen, i I who averaged 41.16 miles to I the gallon in their Datsun 1808. Lawrence and Vandendungen also won class B ,for cars between 1351-2000 c.c. The placings were based ion a figure of merit calculated by multiplying the| i weight of the vehicle, in-! i eluding occupants; by the , distance travelled, and divid-1 ing by the amount of petror used. I. Cromie and J. Stubbs! were third in an Austin Maxi averaging 43.10 miles a gallon. Class winners were:—Class A (up to 1300 c.c.): 11. Booth and ■ D. Tindall. Renault RLI2TL. 45.52’ m.p.g.
