New model for rally

AUCKLAND. Mike Marshall, the Auckland driver and No.. 2 seed in the international Heatway Rally which begins next Monday in Auckland, has surprised the rally world by entering a new Ford Escort ll—a model which is just appearing on New Zealand roads.

The fitting of a. competition suspension strut to the car started only eight weeks ago, and it is not expected to be completed until the end of this week.

Only five of the new Escorts, released in Europe early this year, have been prepared for rallying in Britain, but Roger Clark has already driven one to victory in,the Scottish Rally. “I’m delighted with the way the new Escort is shaping,” Marshall said. “It is a stronger built machine and visibility is greatly improved.”
