League referee upsets players
Members of the Canterbury’ Rugby league team which played Wales at the Show Grounds last Tuesday evening have taken the unusual step of making known their displeasure at the refereeing of Mr T. Drake, of Christchurch, during the match.
The feelings of the players were made known by the Canterbury manager, Mr J. Anderson, in his report to the provincial board of control last night. Mr Anderson said that al-j though he did “not wish to prolong the matter” he had been asked by the players to mention their disappointment! concerning Mr Drake’s rub! ings. The game—won by] Wales 25-18—was marred by' a number 'of unsavoury in-| cidents.
“This was certainly one of the best performances by a Canterbury team for rpany years. The players are in good spirits and are very keen to do well over the rest .of the season,” Mr Anderson said. He added that Mark Broadhurst, the young second-row forward, who was taken from the field on a stretcher after being felled by the Welsh prop, Jim Mills, had been released from hospital the next afternoon and "was expected to be able to re-
