No racing for Ngaere Dawn
"The Press" Special Service ' NEIV PLYMOUTH. Ngaere Dawn, winner of the Gloaming Stakes at Trentham last month, has been retired from racing and will be mated with the Waikanae stallion. Pass The Bottle in the spring. Ngaere Dawn, which won seven races and recorded 12 minor placings for stakes of $17,315. was I raced throughout her career by Mr G. Lobb of Stratford, in partnership with his son-in-law. Mr R. G. McSeveny. Mr McSeveny, who trained the Roland—Serenic mare, said that fear of a breakdown in the near foreleg had prompted the decision.
Ngaere Dawn had been troubled by soreness in the leg for almost a year, but despite considerable investigation the exact cause of the trouble had never been pinpointed.
The mare’s wins in addition to the Gloaming Stakes. Included the Levin Winter Cup. Anniversary Handicap at Trentham. and the Evergreen Stakes, a featture event for fillies and mares run by the Egmont Racing Club.
