FOXONA DEAD
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND.*
Foxona. one of the last in a tribe of great producing Foxbridge mares, died at Haunui Farm, Whitford, yesterday about the time Herminia was adding further distinction to their family with his Brisbane Cup win. Foxona was bred in 1950 by Foxbridge from Sona, and Herminia, a four-year-old mare is by Hermes from Clochemerle, by Rousseau's Dream from Clynder, by Balloch from Sona. Bred by Mr L. S. Otway at his Trelawney Stud. Foxona was undistinguished as a racehorse. But as a brood mare she made her mark straight away. Her first foal, Matauwhi, won his very first race, and through Rosies Girl she has been a strong influence right up to this present season. Rosies Girl is by Zamazaan from Rosehill, the seventh foai of Foxona, by Test Case. Appropriately enough she is trained by Mr R. C. Verner, who. in partnership with his father, the late Mr T. F. Verner, prepared Matauwhi.
The same family' produced Kia Marea and Kia Maia, their dam, Kia U. being by Khorassan from Clynder.
