Irvine chosen as wing
Andy Irvine, the champion goal-kicker and fullback in the Scottish Rugby
team, has been placed on the wing for the team to play Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday.
Irvine played in that position in two of the Lions’ four tests against the Springboks last year, displacing a present team-mate, Billy Steele. The tour selectors have faced the problem of giving all players a reasonable number of games. Graham Birkett, a centre, and the second hooker, Colin Fisher, will be making their tour debuts. Soccer. — Scotland beat Rumania. 2-1. in a European under 23 soccer championship match at Pitesti. Hockey.— Hawke’s Bay drew 1-1 with Hutt Valley in a men’s representative hockey match at Napier yesterday.
