AUCKLAND, June 1. The Prime Minister-(Mr Rowling) and the Minister of Finance (Mr l izard) are trying to confuse the issue of Budget-day importation of stereo equipment, says the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Muldoon).
Mr Tizard has strongly denied allegations concerning stereo equipment imported in his 'name. Yesterday Mr Muldoon said . that, contrary to statements by Mr Rowling and Mr Tizjard, the Budget did remove I the duty concession on unI accompanied or “mis--1 handled” baggage, which was the label under which the goods were imported. “On Tuesday the Prime Minister could not confirm whether this was the basis •on which the duty was charged." said Mr Muldoon.
"When on Thursday 1 was told from another source that duty was levied as 'unaccompanied' baggage the question of the issue of an import licence became relevant. “I am certain that the Government would not make, licences available for equip-! ment to the retail value,of I $llOO to every hi-fi enthusiast who wished to apply regardless of the rate of duty paid,” said Mr Muldoon.
