French XV dominates first match
t' N, Z P A. R euter —Copy rig ht > DURBAN. France opened its 11-match Rugby tour of South Africa with a sparkling, 34-18, victory over Natal on Saturday. The French scored six tries, five of which were converted, to Natal’s converted try and four penalties. The touring team ran, handled, and covered superbly. With their lock, Alain Guilbert, always prominent, the French dominated the lineouts and used their possession to thrill the capacity crowd of 35.000 with unorthodox moves that time and again turned defence into attack. Francois Sangali and Jean Luc Averous scored two tries each, and Jean-Pierre Pesteil and Jean Michel Aguirre added the others. Pesteil kicked four conversions and Aguirre one.
