Six-day arts workshop
Fifty-three secondary school pupils from Canterbury, Westland and Buller will gather in Christchurch today for the second Canterbury Arts Workshop. Over the next six days they will take part in drama, music, visual arts, filmtelevision and dance activities under five tutors. T he group will be undjr the overall direction of Miss W Jones, senior lecturer in English at the secondary division of Christchurch Teachers’ College, Ham, where the workshop is taking place. The first workshop was held in August, 1973. when 46 students took part. The Department of Internal Affairs has initiated both workshops. If sponsorship could be maintained and increased, it was hoped to make the workshop an annual event, said the administrator (Mr T. W. Turner). The enthusiastic participation of the members of the first workshop and the ?ager response of the applicants for the second would seem to indicate a rea’ need for related arts, multimedia workshops of this type for young people, he said.
