40km road cycle race
Tile veteran, Roger Fowler, outsprinted a big bunch of frontmarkers to win the open '4okm road cycling race at Ciarkville on Saturday. His victims in eluded contemporaries such as Trevor Gibbs and Jim Spencer as well as some riders who wert not bom when Fowler won the 1954 New- Zealand individual pursuit championship. Three riders who were also not born when Fowler was in his prime dominated the fastest time □lacings. Ail juniors, Frank Schaapveld. Kim Reid and James Sampson had a stem battle for fastest time, and Peter Lewis another junior, was right with them and the only other survivor of the 2Smin bunch. Tire scratch riders—five of them, against the six on the break mark—were Slsec slower in the bid for fastest time. Results:—
