State house tenants
Sir, — I feel that an economic review of all State house tenants is long overdue. There must be tenants in State houses who now have no genuine right to be there, I refer to tenants who were earning low wages when granted accommodation but are now earning a much higher wage. Another case is where the children have grown up, left, and both parents are now working. The usual reply given by the Housing Corporation is that in such cases the renta'. is increased, but surely the original idea of low rental State housing was to provide for those who were in need of such assistance from the Government. 1 would suggest that some present occupants of State houses are now in no need of this means of assistance, ;.nd therefore an immediate survey should be, conducted to weed out the genuine needy from the unneedy. — Yours etc., E. M. HOOKER. April 11, 1975.
