Hydro storage above ‘full’
South Island hydro-electric storage is still above nominal full, according to advice to electricity authorities by the New Zealand Electricity Department vesterdav.
i Spilling has continued from Manapouri, but the ’station has been on continuous full output, so that maximum use is being made of the water.
Spillage from the Waitaki lakes is decreasing, and it is expected that the decrease will continue, as the inflows are falling.
Inter-island transmission had been at maximum practicable limits throughout the week to achieve a weekly load factor of 95 per cent, the department told the authorities. North Island storage was 80 per cent of nominal full, and no oil generation had been used during the week, apart from a little testing at New Plymouth. Allocations for supply authorities (based on last year’s consumption, with an allowance for projected growth), were almost compete, and the authorities would be advised of them soon, said the department.
