Tuition on textiles by correspondence
Qualifications for textile industry work may iiov be earned through home study with the New Zealand Technical Correspondence Institute at Lower Hutt.
Tuition now being offered on knitted goods manufacture, caters specifically for trainee mechanics, knitting operatives, production cadets, and management trainees.
Mr R. G. Harrison, head of the institute’s general department. said he appreciated that it was not always practicable for staff to be' released for long periods of full-time study. But those who wished to gain additional technical knowledge and qualifications could do so by studying relevant subjects at home in their own time.
The knitted goods manu- ■ facture course consists of I eight subjects arranged in three stages. The syllabus is that of the City and Guilds of London Institute’s Technician Intermediate Examination.
“Our textile industry is a very important part of New
'Zealand’s industrial growth,” said Mr Harrison. "It can be strengthened greatly by courses such as these. The young people now coming up through the ranks wiil eventually become foreman mechanics, development and sampling mechanics, and knitting room managers. Specialised study will make them more versaitle; a gain not onl\ to employers but to the industry as a whole."
