Changes in film laws
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND.
A new approach to film censorship, the abolition of film exhibitors’ licences within perhaps three years, and the establishment of a new and broader-based Film Industry Board will be major proposals in new cinema legislation to be introduced in Parliament later in the year.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr May) the permanent head of the department, Sir Patrick O’Dea, outlined the proposals to the annual conference of the Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association at Rotorua.
The Minister planned, said Sir Patrick, to ask Parliament to refer the bill to a Select Committee of the House.
