Short-lived freedom

A youth who escaped from Paparua Prison early on Saturday by cutting a bar over his cell window gave himself up later the same day. Robin John Wilson, who was serving a five-year sentence for rape, made a rope out of bed sheets and lowered himself the 12ft from his window to the ground. Wilson gave himself up at 8.50 p.m., just 20 hours after making the break. He telephoned the police and was picked up on the corner of Clyde and Riccarton roads.
