Move to expel S. Africa
(N.Z.P.A.Reuter—Copyright) ’ LONDON. India and Rumania have called for immediate expulsion from the Davis Cup of South Africa, which won the trophy by default last year, Mr Basil Reay, secretary of the cup committee, stud yesterday. The committee will consider the request at a regular meeting in Munich next Thursday. India, which refused to meet South Africa in the Davis Cup final last year because of the Republic’s apartheid policy, based its demand on the grounds that at least one nation, Mexico, has already refused to play the South Africans this year. Also, Colombia has said it will not meet South Africa in the final of the North section of the American zone.
It would require six votes of the eight-member committee to bring about the expulsion of South Africa.
