Conference of deans

The fourth annual Confer-' ence of Deans will meet in Christchurch this week-end for the first time. Its business will extend over three days.

Among topics discussed will be cathedra] music, the relationship between the Cathedral and the diocese, and the Cathedral and the city.

The conference will open with a special service in the Cathedral on Sunday which the deans of Auckland. Hamilton, Napier. Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin will attend.

They will be presented by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill) to the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay). Also celebrated at the same service will be the seventy-ninth anniversary of the National Council of Women in New Zealand. The Christchurch president (Dr M. Smith) will present the national president (Mrs G. Hollander) to the Mayor. The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) will preach the sermon. The administrator of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament (the Rev. J. Harrington) will attend.

During the conference the deans will be taken on a conducted tour of the Roman Catholic Cathedral.
