Explosion on boat
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. A man was blown overboard by an explosion which ripped through his 24ft runabout in the Rangitoto Channel at about 9 o’clock on Wednesday. Mr G. E. Boyle, the only occupant of the vessel, later told the police that he was dazed, but he somehow managed to swim to the rubber dinghy tied to the back of the runabout and row ashore. The remains of the boat, gutted to waterline, later sank. Mr Boyle, of Mangere, said he had taken the Iss Bess : out on a test run in preparation for Easter week-end. He dived overboard to free a fouled propeller. He I started the motor and was j raising anchor when he was I blown overboard.
