The yarding of 337 beef cattle at the Burnside sale this week was about 200 fewer than last week’s. There was a large proportion of heavy cattle. A line of particularly heavy Friesian cross oxen from Taieri realised to $l5B. Prices rose about $5 a head.
Oxen: top, $158; heavy. $l3l to $154; medium, $lOO to $120; light. $B2 to $B4; small, from $65. Heifers: top, $B7: heavy. $BO to $B5; medium. $66 to $72; light, 552 to $5B. Cows: top, $B7; heavy. $72 to $80; medium, $56 to $6B; light. $4B to $52. The veal yarding of 74 was of fair quality, but prices were slightly easier. Top vealers fetched $66; medium. $5O to $55; light. $35 to $45.
The offering of 54 mediumquality store cattle sold close to recent rates. Prices: medium two and a half year steers. $56 to $6l; 18-month Angus heifers. $44.
Eighty pigs were offered. Quality was good and values remained on last week’s higher level. Prices: top. $6O; medium. $5O to $5B: light, $39 to $42.
The lamb entry of 350 was of] good quality and prices were I similar to last week’s high level. Top lambs made $lO to sl2.] medium $9 to $9.40. and light' $8.50 to $B.BO.
The yarding of 1550 sheep was down slightly on last week and the quality was mixed. Prices for hoggets rose 51.20 and ewe prices improved 20c. Hoggets: top, $13.40; medium. $ll.lO to $11.40; light, $10.20 to $10.60. Ewes: top, $3.20; medium. 52.70 to $3; light, to $2.60.
